Taipei, July 10 (CNA) The 4th Asian Innovation Forum (AIF) was held in Taipei Tuesday, bringing together 30 think tank experts from more than 10 countries to address key innovation issues in the region.

Taiwan's Minister of Science and Technology Chen Liang-gee (陳良基) said during the opening ceremony that the government is continuing to promote the development of strategies for advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and quantum computers, and is working to strengthen cooperation between industry and academic sectors in an effort to deepen Taiwan's connection with other Asian countries and raise Taiwan's international visibility.

Chen also indicated the challenge facing Taiwan in breaking a bottleneck in advancing scientific technology and innovation because of insufficient resources.

He said Taiwan should make good use of the resources of more advanced countries by establishing partnership ties with these countries.

This year, the forum focused on "national strategy for science, technology and innovation: visions, road maps and action plans," "emerging technologies and public engagement" and "science and technology policy/program management: approaches and practices."

Organized by the Korea Institute of S&T Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP) since 2015, the forum aims to seek new possibilities and promote international collaboration by providing a communication platform for key actors in Asian innovation.

The forum was held jointly by KISTEP and Taiwan's Science and Technology Policy Research and Information Center under the National Applied Research Laboratories.
