Taipei, April 24 (CNA) President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on Thursday extended his condolences after a recent attack in India-administered Kashmir killed dozens of tourists, saying "our hearts are with the people of India."

Lai shared Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's social media post and offered his "deepest condolences to the victims' families and all those impacted by the terrorist attack in Pahalgam," a tourist destination in the mountainous Anantnag district.

"Taiwan stands with the international community in strongly condemning this atrocious act of violence against civilians. Our hearts are with the people of India," the president added.

According to international media reports, the suspected militant attack in the Himalayan region of Kashmir -- which is claimed by both India and Pakistan -- left 26 dead and dozens more injured.
