Taipei, Nov. 24 (CNA) Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) officially registered his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election on Friday, hours after naming TPP Legislator Wu Hsin-ying (吳欣盈) as his running mate.

Wu, the daughter of former Hsin Kong Financial Holding Co. Chairman Eugene Wu (吳東進), is a legislator-at-large who was appointed in November 2022 and had served previously as vice president of Shin Kong Life Insurance Co.

The formal registration of Ko and Wu on the TPP ticket brought to an end the months-long efforts by the party to join forces with the main opposition Kuomintang in a bid to unseat the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

The DPP candidates, Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and former Taiwan Representative to the United States Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), are currently leading in the polls ahead of the Jan. 13 elections.
