Taipei, Jan. 16 (CNA) Chen Hsuen-sheng (陳雪生), the candidate of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT), claimed victory Saturday over three rivals in the Lienchiang County voting district, generally known as the Matsu islands.

Chen is the incumbent lawmaker in the Liengchiang County.

Due to the relatively smaller voting population in the county, the vote-counting was almost completed compared with other voting districts, making the voting district the first for the leading candidate to claim victory.

The majority of voters in Matsu tend to be KMT supporters, and the main opposition party Democratic Progressive Party did not even nominate anyone to challenge Chen.
