Hon Hai eyes 100% green power use in global sites by 2040

Taipei, Sept. 7 (CNA) Taiwan-based manufacturing giant Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. said it has established a goal of pushing for 100 percent use of green electricity at its production sites around the world by 2040.

In its latest annual sustainability report released Monday, Young Liu (劉揚偉), chairman of the iPhone assembler and AI server maker, said the company will continue to advance energy conservation and carbon reduction, renewable energy, green manufacturing, and the circular economy.

Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn globally, has steadily progressed toward its goals of 100 percent green power use at its plants around the globe by 2040 and net-zero emissions across the value chain by 2050, Liu said in the report.

"We regard the natural environment as important capital for the enterprise's long-term development, and we continue to invest in water resource management, waste circularity, biodiversity, and nature conservation, so that corporate growth and the environment form a positive cycle," Liu added.

According to Hon Hai, green power accounted for 68.37 percent of the company's total power consumption worldwide in 2025, ahead of its original goal of 50 percent by 2030, by taking advantage of Hon Hai's policies in large green power procurement and the introduction of renewable energy into production processes.

In 2025, Hon Hai noted that the company directly procured 1,870.28 GWh of green electricity, while it also procured 4,849.15 GWh of renewable electricity through power trading arrangements to obtain the corresponding green electricity certificates.

Hon Hai said it has adopted a green energy diversification policy to enhance energy supply resilience and electricity use efficiency through clean technologies.

In terms of solar energy projects, Hon Hai added that major plant sites such as those in Taiwan, Vietnam, and Wuhan, Chengdu, Yantai, and Zhengzhou in China, have a combined installed and planned capacity of about 125.68 MW, with an estimated annual power generation of about 117 million kWh.

In terms of its supply chain, Hon Hai said as of the end of 2025, it had required 56 of its suppliers to sign emissions reduction agreements through the "Supplier ESG Digital Management Platform" and to commit to 100 percent green power when rolling out products for Hon Hai, which was ahead of its previous goal of 45 suppliers.

Hon Hai said its target is to require 150 of its suppliers to commit to using 100 percent green power in production for Hon Hai by 2030.

According to the company, it has also continued to expand its efforts to develop clean technologies and services.

In 2025, revenue generated from products and services classified as clean technologies at the company's cloud service subsidiary Foxconn Industrial Internet (FII) accounted for 76.53 percent of the unit's total sales, with cloud computing and high-efficiency data center solutions making up 66.75 percent of the unit's total revenue.
