Taipei, May 12 (CNA) Hubei Province Governor Wang Guosheng donated on behalf of the province 600,000 Chinese yuan (US$95,072) to helpimprove facilities and equipment in the mountainous Alishan regionin southern Taiwan's Chiayi County.
At a ceremony marking the donation, Hubei Youth Federation Chairman Zhu Houlun handed over a symbolic check board to Tsai Mei-ling, the principal of one of the schools.
The fund will be used to purchase new computers at six schools in the region and new equipment for music classrooms at a local association promoting the culture of the indigenous Tsou tribe, Tsai said.
Wang said the donation was meant to help improve the education for local teenagers and nurture the future talent of Taiwan.
In addition to praising the scenery of the Alishan, a popularmountain resort area in Taiwan, and the friendliness of the people,Wang said private-sector exchanges of this kind between Taiwan andChina will become ever more frequent and important in the future.
At the head of a 100-member delegation, Wang arrived in TaiwanMonday for a weeklong visit.
