'Lust, Caution' biggest Golden Horse Awards winner

Taipei, Dec. 8 (CNA) Ang Lee's spy thriller "Lust, Caution" sweptthe board of the 44th Golden Horse Awards in his native TaiwanSaturday, winning seven awards, including best film, best directorand best actor.

It marked the first time that the New York-based director hasclinched the best director honor of the Golden Horse Awards, theTaiwan version of Hollywood Oscars designed to commend outstandingChinese-language films and personalities.

Ang Lee also won the coveted honor of Taiwanese filmmaker of theyear.

Tony Leung Chiu-wai won the best actor award for his portrayal ofa calm, ruthless Japanese-allied spy chief in World War II-eraShanghai in "Lust, Caution" adapted from a short story of the samename by noted writer Eileen Chang. It was the third time that Leunghas captured the Golden Horse best actor award.

The film's leading actress, Tang Wei, however, lost to veteranJoan Chen, who won the best actress award for portraying thestruggles of a Hong Kong nightclub singer who moves to Australia in"The Home Song Stories."

Tang Wei instead won the best new performer award for hermarvelous protrayal of a young spy who posed as an affluent marriedwoman in "Lust, Caution."

Best original screenplay: Tony Ayres, "The Home Song Stories".

Best screenplay adaptation: James Schamus, Wang Hui-ling,"Lust, Caution".

Best action choreography: Donnie Yen, "Flash Point".

Best art direction: Anuson Pinyopotjanee, "The Detective".

Best editing: Zhang Yifan, Jiang Wen, "The Sun AlsoRises".

Best cinematography: Lee Ping-bin, "TheMatrimony".

Best visual effects: Victor Wong, Eddy Wong, Clement Cheung,Donnie Lai, "Secret."

Best film score: Alexandre Desplat, "Lust, Caution."

Best original film song: "Secret," composer Jay Chou, lyricistFang Wen-shan, performer Jay Chou.

Best sound effects: Tu Duu-chih, Kuo Li-chi, Tang Xiangzhu, "TheMost Distant Course."

Best makeup and costume design: Pan Lai, Olympic Lau, "Lust,Caution".

Best documentary: "Hollywood Chinese."

Best short film: "Fly Out Blue."

Taiwanese filmmaker of the year: Ang Lee.

Taiwanese film of the year: "Secret".

Best new performer: Tang Wei, "Lust, Caution".

Best film by audience vote: "Getting Home".
