Taipei, Sept. 14 (CNA) Taiwan's Chen Zhi-ray (陳子睿) and Lin Yu-chieh (林煜傑) won the men's doubles final at the Yonex-Sunrise Vietnam Open badminton tournament on Sunday, quickly dispatching their Singaporean opponents in back-to-back games in 27 minutes.
Chen and Lin defeated Singapore's Terry Hee (許永凱) and Howin Wong (黃家豪) at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 100 event 21-14, 21-12 at the Nguyen Du Club in Ho Chi Minh City.
The victory marked the duo's first time winning a BWF Tour event since they paired up in 2024.
The 24-year-old Chen and 26-year-old Lin had previously claimed top spots in three lower-level tourneys, before notching a breakthrough second-place finish at the BWF World Tour Super 300 US Open in June.
In Sunday's match, Lin said he felt the most challenging part for him was defense, as both teams attempted to get ahead early in each game.
"We were just more patient, so we found the right moment to go on the offensive," Lin told CNA.
Chen, meanwhile, said the finals had gone smoothly.
"We performed to our expectations in this finals match," Chen said. "Yu-chieh controlled the front and center court very well to position the shuttlecocks for me in the back court, either to go on the offensive or make returns."
Chen added that the pair's most challenging match in the tournament had actually been their second round match-up against fellow Taiwanese Chen Ping-hsuan (陳秉軒) and Lee Wei-ting (李威霆).
Despite the fact that the duo was not named in Taiwan's delegation to the 2026 Asian Games in Japan's Aichi Prefecture later this month, Chen said he and his teammate will aim to continue participating in international competitions to increase their overall rankings.
Chen said he hopes to reach the top 30, or possibly even the top 25, in world rankings this year, from events like the BWF Super 500 Clash of Clans Arctic Open in October.
