Taipei, Nov. 17 (CNA) A Taiwanese esports player clinched the world championship title in the three-day auto-battler game Teamfight Tactics (TFT) on Sunday, taking home the US$150,000 grand prize.
Known by the pseudonym WithoutYou, the Taiwanese player was crowned the TFT world champion at the K.O. Coliseum Tactician's Crown, an in-person competition held in Alicante, Spain, and Chengdu, China, from Nov. 14 to 16, featuring the world's top 40 players.
The 40 competitors were divided into four regional groups — Asia-Pacific, the Americas, Europe/Middle East/Africa, and China — with each region assigned a set number of slots.
An auto-battler game is often described as "chess-like," where players draft and position units that automatically battle opponents each round.
After advancing to the final eight alongside five other players from the Asia-Pacific region, WithoutYou went on to finish with the highest overall score to claim the title.

Speaking to the organizers after the match, WithoutYou said his hands were still shaking when he won the title. He said he did not expect to win the championship in his first world tournament and was thrilled by the victory.
"I approached this tournament with a calm mindset and kept my routine in check," he said, adding that he also received great encouragement from other players.
TFT is a spinoff of League of Legends, a multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by the California-based Riot Games.
