Taipei, June 28 (CNA) Penghu County's Guanyinting Sailing Center was officially designated Saturday by the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF) as a federation-approved sailing center.
Officially named the "Penghu Guanyinting Sailing Centre - Chinese Taipei," the site in Taiwan's offshore Penghu County applied for ASAF recognition in December 2023.
After multiple ASAF visits over the past two years and hosting an International Laser Class Association (ILCA) event in 2024, the Penghu site was designated a high-performance sailing center by ASAF last October.
An official ceremony was held Saturday to install an ASAF-issued plaque outside the center.
The five-day 2025 Penghu Regatta, which kicked off Saturday to celebrate the center's milestone, was postponed due to poor weather but is expected to resume Sunday.
The newly designated ASAF site will also host the sailing competition for this year's biennial National Games of the Republic of China.
