Taipei, July 26 (CNA) Taiwan's Ting Yen-chen (丁彥宸) defeated his Chinese opponent in straight games Friday to reach the men's singles badminton final at the World University Games in Germany.

Ting, 21, a National Taiwan University student, has delivered a standout performance in the singles tournament, advancing to the final without dropping a game.

Facing China's Zhou Xinyu (周新宇) in the semifinals, Ting got off to a strong start, quickly pulling ahead to take the opener 15-7.

He maintained his momentum in the second game, cruising to a 15-6 win to secure a spot in the gold medal match.

Ting will face France's Enogat Roy in the final.

Taiwanese players have reached the podium in men's singles badminton at the World University Games six times. Ting will try to become the second from Taiwan to win gold in the event, after Wang Tzu-wei (王子維) at the 2017 Taipei Universiade.

Meanwhile, Wu Hsuan-yi (吳軒毅) and Yang Chu-yun (楊筑云) will face fellow Taiwanese players Chen Cheng-kuan (陳政寬) and Hsu Yin-hui (許尹鏸) in the mixed doubles badminton final, guaranteeing both gold and silver for Taiwan.

Lin Yu-chieh (林煜傑) and Jheng Yu-chieh (鄭宇倢) each took bronze after falling to Chen and Hsu in the mixed doubles semifinals.
