Taipei, July 26 (CNA) This is CNA's live update on Saturday's recall votes targeting 24 opposition Kuomintang (KMT) lawmakers and suspended Hsinchu Mayor Kao Hung-an (高虹安).

Polls were open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with results expected later today.

Another seven KMT lawmakers are set to face recall votes on Aug. 23.

The unprecedented campaign -- launched by civil groups and backed by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) -- aims to reshape Taiwan's Legislature, where the KMT and the smaller opposition Taiwan People's Party (TPP) currently hold a majority.

The 113-seat Legislature is made up of 52 KMT members, 51 from the DPP, eight from the TPP, and two independents aligned with the KMT.

Kao, who was suspended over fraud allegations, resigned from the TPP last August.

According to the Central Election Commission data, the number of voters casting a "yes" vote to recall Hsinchu lawmaker Cheng Cheng-chien (鄭正鈐) exceeded 25 percent of eligible voters, making it the seventh recall vote to meet the required threshold. However, the number of votes in favor of the recall still fell short of the number of votes against it.

The turnout for the recall election is still being finalized. According to data from the Central Election Commission (CEC) as of 7:16 p.m., only six out of the 24 recall votes met the required threshold—ballots in favor of the recall reaching at least 25 percent of eligible voters—for the measures to pass. These include recall votes against Wang Hung-wei (王鴻薇), Lee Yen-hsiu (李彥秀), Hsu Chiao-hsin (徐巧芯), Yeh Yuan-chih (葉元之), Lo Ting-wei (羅廷瑋), and Fu Kun-chi (傅崐萁).

All 24 lawmakers of the main opposition Kuomintang (KMT) up for recall Saturday survived their recall votes, ensuring that the KMT along with Taiwan People's Party lawmakers will maintain opposition control of the Legislature, according to numbers from the Central Election Commission.

One of the conditions for the recalls to succeed was that at least 25 percent of eligible voters in an electoral district support the recall. As of 5:55 p.m., that threshold had only been met in the cases of lawmakers Wang Hung-wei, Hsu Chiao-hsin (both representing Taipei), Lo Ting-wei (Taichung) and Fu Kun-chi (Hualien). That number could change as some votes from the last polling stations to report come in, but overall a disappointing showing for those who supported the recall campaigns.

Based on Central Election Commission figures and the number of polling stations yet to report, of the 24 KMT lawmakers up for recall, only Yeh Yuan-chih (葉元之), representing New Taipei's 7th electoral district, is at risk of being recalled. With 29 polling stations still to report, anti-recall votes lead pro-recall votes by fewer than 3,000 votes.
