Taipei, Jan. 23 (CNA) Taiwan's Chan Hao-ching (詹皓晴) and her women's doubles partner Yang Zhaoxuan (楊釗煊) of China advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open after a straight-set win against Belgium-Ukraine pairing Alison Van Uytvanck and Anhelina Kalinina on Monday.

The 11th seeds, Chan and Yang, sailed past their third-round opponents 6-3, 7-5 in one hour and 40 minutes at John Cain Arena, in Melbourne, Australia to book a slot in the quarterfinals against second seeds Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula of the United States.

This is the fourth time that Chan, ranked No. 37 in the world for women's doubles, has reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, after she and her sister, Latisha Chan (詹詠然), made it in 2016 and 2019, and progressed to the semifinals in 2020.

This will, however, be the first time that the world No. 10 doubles player Yang has reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open since she first played in the Grand Slam event in 2015.

During the match on Monday, Chan Hao-ching and Yang were down 1-0 before rallying to take four straight games and clinch the opener.

The following set saw both pairs survive their serving games, until Chan Hao-ching and Yang broke their opponents' serve in the 11th game and went on to win the next game, and the match.

"Onto quarter finals today! Thanks everyone for your passion and support," Chan Hao-ching said on Facebook after the victory.

Prior to their latest victory, Chan Hao-ching and Yang have had a remarkable run by defeating Australian doubles veteran Samantha Stosur and Alize Cornet of France 6-3, 6-4 in the first round, before breezing past Spanish-Japanese duo Cristina Bucsa and Makoto Ninomiya 6-3, 6-3 in the second.

The Australian Open, held from Jan. 16-29, is the first of four annual Grand Slam tennis events with the others being the French Open, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open.
