Taipei, Aug. 1 (CNA) Taiwan's table tennis teams advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's and women's competitions at the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday, each defeating their opponents in three straight games in a best-of-five match series.

The men's team -- comprising Chen Chien-an (陳建安), Chuang Chih-yuan (莊智淵) and Lin Yun-ju (林昀儒) -- beat their Croatian rivals 3-0.

The matches started with a doubles game, in which the Chen-Chuang duo beat Croatia 3-2.

Lin and Chen then took over in the singles games, and they both scored 3-0 to win.

The men's team will face Germany at the quarterfinals on Aug. 3.

Meanwhile, the women's team -- comprising Cheng Hsien-tzu (鄭先知), Chen Szu-yu (陳思羽) and Cheng I-ching (鄭怡靜) -- scored a 3-0 win over the United States.

Cheng Hsien-tzu and Chen secured the doubles match with a 3-2 win.

Cheng I-ching and Chen then won the singles games, each scoring 3-0.

The women's team will play against Japan at the quarterfinals on Aug. 2.
