Taiwan's Wen and Gu take silver at Karate 1-Series A in Istanbul

Taipei, May 20 (CNA) Taiwanese Wen Tzu-yun (文姿云) and Gu Shiau-shuang (谷筱霜) won silver medals Sunday after losing their respective finals at the Karate 1-Series A tournament in Istanbul, Turkey.

Wen, who competed in the women's kumite 55-kilogram category, lost 2-5 to Taravat Khaksar of Iran in the final.

The performance marked her third medal this year after winning gold in the Karate-1 Premier League event in Dubai and silver in the same series in Rabat, Morocco.

The Taiwanese, who holds the Asian Games title in the 55-kg division, currently has the highest ranking points in her weight category in the Olympic qualification process, according to the World Karate Federation's (WKF) official website on the Tokyo 2020 Standings.

Also on Saturday, Gu took silver after losing the women's kumite 50-kg category final 0-4 to Serap Ozcelik Arapoglu.

The World Karate Federation (WKF) Karate 1-Series A is a world-class competition that consists of events in Salzburg, Istanbul, Montreal and Santiago.

The event in Turkey was held from May 17-19.
