Taiwan Railway to add mobile payment for onboard fare adjustments

Taipei, Sept. 8 (CNA) Taiwan Railway Corp. (TR) will introduce mobile payment for fare adjustments made onboard trains starting Thursday, allowing passengers to pay by digital wallet in addition to cash, the railway operator said Tuesday.

The move follows complaints last year from a passenger who had used a credit card to buy a regular train ticket but was required to pay an additional amount in cash after boarding a Tze-Chiang Limited Express train. The passenger said the lack of payment options caused inconvenience.

Since March 2, TR stations have accepted credit cards and mobile payments for fare adjustments, in addition to cash.

Starting Thursday, passengers making fare adjustments onboard trains can use mobile payment services including JKO Pay, Easy Wallet, PXPay Plus, Pi Wallet, PX Pay, iPASS MONEY, icash Pay, Taiwan Pay and LINE Pay Money.
