Taipei, Jan. 19 (CNA) Taxi fares in Taoyuan will increase by NT$50 (US$1.58) per trip during the Lunar New Year holiday from Feb. 13 to Feb. 22, the Taoyuan City government's Department of Transportation said Monday.
Taxi services originating at Taoyuan International Airport will be subject to a higher surcharge of NT$100 per trip during the same period, the department said.
For trips that extend into nighttime surcharge hours, fares will be calculated based on the time the passenger boards the taxi, the agency said.
Passengers who encounter overcharging or refusal of service are advised to record the taxi's license plate number, as well as the time and location of the incident, and report it to the city's 1999 hotline or the police at (03) 332-5368.
Violators will be fined in accordance with the Highway Act or the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act.
