New Taipei, Dec. 27 (CNA) A 19-year-old man died on Saturday after a 200-kilogram art piece toppled over while being moved and struck him on the head at a warehouse in New Taipei's Wugu District, police said.
The accident occurred at a corrugated metal warehouse on Wailiao Road. According to the Luzhou Precinct of the New Taipei City Police Department, the victim, surnamed Yu (余), was helping move a large art piece -- measuring 1.7 meters tall and 0.6 meters wide -- when the object fell for unknown reasons, striking him on the head.
Police and firefighters received the report at approximately noon and found that a moving company had been hired to transport the large artworks at the facility to Taipei when they arrived at the scene.
Yu had no vital signs when emergency responders arrived and was rushed to Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3 p.m.
Police said they have notified Yu's family and taken statements from staff present at the scene. The case will be referred to prosecutors and to the labor authorities for further investigation.
