Taipei, June 7 (CNA) A sedan flipped over after colliding with a tour bus in Taipei's Songshan District around noon on Saturday, leaving two people in the smaller vehicle dead, according to local police and the fire department.

The Taipei City Fire Department said it received a report about the traffic incident around 11 a.m. and upon arriving at Fuyuan Street, found that a sedan had collided with a tour bus, causing the car to overturn and suffer severe damage.

Two people trapped in the overturned car -- a 40-year-old male driver and his 65-year-old mother -- were rescued by firefighters, with both in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) when taken to a hospital, according to the fire department.

Despite resuscitation efforts, the mother and son were later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The tour bus driver was uninjured and there were no passengers on board at the time, the fire department said.

The police department's Songshan Precinct said the sedan suddenly veered from the inner lane to the outer lane for unknown reasons when driving south on Fuyuan Street, and struck the left side of the tour bus that was parked on the roadside and about to pull out.

The collision caused the car to overturn, police said, adding that the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
