Taipei, Aug. 21 (CNA) Starlux Airlines on Friday added Kaohsiung as its third Taiwan point of departure, announcing two routes that will connect the southern port city with Japan starting on Jan. 1 next year.

According to Starlux, the two new routes are Kaohsiung-Kobe and Kaohsiung-Okinawa.

With the addition of the southern port city, Starlux said travelers can now choose Taipei (Taoyuan International Airport), Taichung or Kaohsiung as their preferred point of departure.

To commemorate Kaohsiung becoming the third Taiwan airport from which Starlux operates flights to Kobe, the airline held a press event at Kobe City Hall, led by the airline's Chief Strategy Officer Simon Liu (劉允富), Kobe Mayor Kizo Hisamoto, and Hiroshi Nishio, head of Kobe Airport.

Starlux CEO Glenn Chai (翟健華) described Kaohsiung as an important international city in Taiwan, as well as a key destination for travel and business in southern Taiwan.

Chai expressed hope that the addition of the two routes will help Starlux further strengthen its presence in the Japanese market.

Flights on both routes will be available every day in the first two months of 2027, served by the airline's Airbus A321neo aircraft.
