Taipei, Jan. 21 (CNA) Doctors pronounced dead late Monday a woman and her baby daughter rushed to hospital earlier in the day after their scooter collided with a truck in Chiayi County, Minsyong Police Precinct said Tuesday.

The scooter driven by a 36-year woman surnamed Hsiao (蕭) collided head-on with a truck when turning left at an intersection on Zhongxing Road in Dalin Township Monday evening, police said.

Hsiao and her two-month-old daughter, whom she was carrying in a baby sling, were thrown from the scooter as a result of the crash.

The two showed signs of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest at the crash site and were both pronounced dead within 20 minutes of arriving at a local hospital.

A breath alcohol test performed on the truck driver surnamed Wu (吳) showed zero alcohol in his blood, police said, adding that they are looking into the cause of the fatal accident.
