165km Kitesurf: Swiss national makes historic Taiwan Strait crossing

Geza Scholtz, an extreme sports enthusiast from Switzerland, made history on July 2 by becoming the first documented person to kitesurf across the Taiwan Strait. The 43-year-old set off from Taiwan's Dongju Island, one of the Matsu Islands, and arrived at a beach near Yongan Fishing Port in Taoyuan after 10 hours, traversing a distance of 165 kilometers. Scholtz told CNA he felt very "emotional" upon reaching the shores of Taoyuan, adding that he was glad to have achieved his goal.
