Tainan, Jan. 21 (CNA) Three people are reportedly trapped in a building in southern Taiwan's Tainan, damaged by a string of earthquakes early Tuesday morning, according to fire officials in the city.

Two adults and a child are believed to be trapped in the residential building located in Tainan's Nanxi District, near the epicenter of a magnitude 6.4 earthquake that struck Chiayi County in southern Taiwan at 12:17 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Tainan Fire Bureau.

Rescue operations are underway, bureau officials said.

In nearby Chiayi City, firefighters are battling a fire that broke out at a printing factory on Shixian Road. There have been no reports of trapped individuals.

As of 2 a.m., over 30 earthquakes have hit southern Taiwan following the magnitude 6.4 earthquake, with the largest measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, according to data from the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
