Taipei, June 27 (CNA) More than 100 people at a recreational water park in New Taipei were injured and rushed to the hospital after a main stage at the park caught fire and an unknown flammable powder exploded in the air.

The fire at Formosa Water Park (八仙樂園) in Bali District broke out at about 8:30 p.m. and was quickly brought under control. The cause of the fire had yet to be determined.

Several victims, some of whom suffered burns over 40 percent of their bodies, were sent to the Mackay Memorial Hospital in Tamsui, the Chang Kung Memorial Hospital in Linkou and the Taipei Veterans General Hospital in Tienmu, Taipei City, for emergency treatment.

A lot of injured people were still waiting at the park for treatment.

It is known that the park was having a "Color Play Asia" party when the accident took place.

Some people attending the party posted on Facebook that after a large volume of the mystery powder spewed out into the air, "the fire began."
