Xiaomi fans to see new Mi 4i phone in Taiwan stores next week
Taipei, May 7 (CNA) China's Xiaomi Inc., the fast-growing No. 3 global smartphone maker, launched its new Mi 4i in Taiwan on Thursday and said the low-cost handset will hit local stores on May 15.
Sales of the Mi 4i will begin next Friday on Xiaomi's official Taiwan website and via Chunghwa Telecom Co. (中華電信), the country's largest mobile provider, with a starting price of NT$6,499 (US$212) for a contract-free model.
When the Mi 4i debuted last month at a global launch in India, it was touted as the first Xiaomi phone with "made for India" software with support for six Indian languages.
The Mi 4i also marks Xiaomi's latest push in its global expansion, with the feature-rich phone packing a 5-inch full-HD 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core 1.7GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage capacity, a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 3120mAh battery.
Xiaomi said it has plans to roll out the new smartphone in India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
