Taipei, Oct. 7 (CNA) A United States congressional delegation is in Taiwan for a four-day visit, during which it will meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and other senior officials, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Tuesday.
The all-Democratic delegation is led by U.S. Representative Brendan Boyle, the ranking member of the House Budget Committee, who is joined by Representatives Andrea Salinas and Tim Kennedy, MOFA said in a press release.
During their stay from Tuesday to Friday, the three lawmakers will meet with Lai, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) and other senior Taiwanese officials to discuss U.S.-Taiwan relations, economic and trade issues, exchanges on technology and regional security, MOFA said.
According to MOFA, Boyle co-sponsored the Taiwan Travel Act, a law encouraging visits between Taiwanese and U.S. officials, as well as a resolution supporting Taiwan's participation in Interpol.
The ministry said this demonstrated his support for closer U.S.-Taiwan ties and Taiwan's participation in international organizations.
The delegation's visit to Taiwan ahead of the Republic of China (Taiwan) National Day on Oct. 10 shows its strong support for Taiwan and for the friendship between the two sides, MOFA added.
Taiwan's official name is the Republic of China.
