Taipei, Jan. 3 (CNA) Ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Lo Chih-cheng (羅致政) on Wednesday described a sex video circulating online and featuring an individual that appeared to be him as a deep fake that had been manipulated and edited.

Lo said he had reported the case to the Investigation Bureau Tuesday night and that it was expected to be transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office on Wednesday.

He pledged to take legal action against those who he said should be held responsible for the incident, saying those uploading or sharing such content were breaking the law.

Lo labeled the circulating online of the illegal content an attempt by foreign governments to interfere in Taiwan's presidential and legislative elections on Jan. 13.

Lo added that the video was first uploaded to a foreign porn website and that Taiwanese media outlets subsequently covered the incident which resulted in further exposure of the content.

He said he hoped that investigative units and relevant authorities would soon be able to complete initial investigation to determine if the content had been modified.
