Taipei, Dec. 4 (CNA) A building dedicated to enhancing the training of tactical combat casualty care and disaster rescue skills was officially inaugurated Monday during a ceremony at National Defense Medical Center (NDMC) in Taipei.

Addressing the opening ceremony, President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) said the building marks the complete upgrading of techniques and training facilities at the NDMC Health Service Training Center, an ROC military affiliated medical school responsible for the training of military doctors, nurses and other medical personnel.

Tsai said the health service training center's mission is to provide military officers and soldiers with the skills required to provide medical care in combat situations.

The new building creates a multi-functional environment for training, including enabling the use of virtual and augmented reality technologies to immerse military personnel in a simulated battlefield rescue training environment, she indicated.

The president also said the health service training center has taught 3,800 service members how to effectively treat combat casualties this year.

Meanwhile, the Medical Affairs Bureau under the Ministry of National Defense said in a statement Monday that artificial intelligence (AI) was used in the building's design to create simulations and models that enable the simulation of different disaster scenarios, including a tactical combat casualty care simulation system, a simulation training system related to major disasters and a multi-functional casualty care training center.
