Taipei, Nov. 19 (CNA) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminded Taiwanese passport holders Tuesday that while they can apply for visas to Turkey online, the e-visas can be used to enter the country only at three of its airports.

Taiwanese nationals can apply online for single-entry, 30-day visas for business or tourism trips to Turkey. But the preferential treatment extends only to Esenboga International Airport in Ankara, and Ataturk and Sabiha Gokcen airports in Istanbul, noted David Wang, director-general of the Department of West Asian and African Affairs.

Wang's remarks came after two Taiwanese travelers to Turkey were denied entry to the west Asian country at the Adnan Menderes airport in Izmir despite holding valid e-visas.

The two had been scheduled to travel to Ankara but had their flight changed by the airline on short notice, redirecting them to Adnan Menderes airport for a domestic transfer, Wang said. The travelers were eventually sent home to Taiwan, he added.

Wang reminded Taiwanese planning to visit Turkey to pay attention to the rules and regulations governing e-visas.
