Taipei, Oct. 2 (CNA) The Golden Horse Awards announced the nominations for its 62nd installment Wednesday, with "A Foggy Tale" (大濛) leading the tally with 11 nominations.

"A Foggy Tale" was nominated for narrative feature, director, leading actor, leading actress, original screenplay, visual effects, art direction, makeup and costume design, original film song, film editing and sound effects, the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival Executive Committee said in a news release.

This drama film focuses on Taiwan's White Terror era and tells the story of a young girl on a life-threatening journey to raise money to redeem the remaining members of her family.

Meanwhile, the 2025 Taiwanese drama film "Left-Handed Girl" (左撇子女孩), co-written by Oscar-winning director Sean Baker, earned nine nominations.

This year's competition received 593 submissions, including 80 feature films, three animated features, 64 documentaries, 310 narrative short films, 79 documentary shorts, and 57 animated shorts, the committee said.

A total of 10 actors and actresses were nominated in the leading role categories, including Hong Kong's Will Or (柯煒林) for his role in "A Foggy Tale," Taiwanese actress Ariel Lin (林依晨) for "Deep Quiet Room" (深度安靜), and Chinese actress Fan Bingbing (范冰冰) for "Mother Bhumi" (地母).

It marks Lin's first Golden Horse nomination in 22 years, while Fan, whose acting career came to a halt after a high-profile tax evasion scandal in 2018, makes a strong comeback with her inclusion in the category.

The committee also named Joy Chung (鍾瓊婷) this year's recipient of the Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year award, praising her "exceptional aesthetics and artistic touch" in her contributions to "A Foggy Tale" and "Unexpected Courage" (我們意外的勇氣).

According to the committee, all nominated films will be screened at select theaters during the Golden Horse Film Festival, which begins on Nov. 6, while the awards ceremony this year will be held on Nov. 22 at the Taipei Music Center.
