Taipei, July 4 (CNA) Several award-winning artists from Taiwan's Mandopop scene will take the stage in the Big Apple on Aug. 16 for the 10th anniversary of Taiwanese Waves.
According to the event organizer, the Taiwanese performers headlining the celebration are 9m88, Yellow (黃宣), ØZI and Mong Tong (夢東).
The acts will be joined by local American artists with Taiwanese backgrounds, such as Taiwanese-American singer-songwriter Chance Emerson and members of New York's own music collective, Chinatown Records.
The show will take place in Central Park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and is free, organizers said.
It is part of SummerStage, an annual outdoor festival run by New York's City Parks Foundation.
Regarding the event, 9m88 said August will not be the first time she has performed at Taiwanese Waves, as she first sang at the festival seven years ago.
Performing in the Big Apple always feels like returning to her second home, as she studied in New York, 9m88 said.
The singer said she hopes to bring the allure of music to Mandopop lovers and even a sense of home to Taiwanese expats in New York.
Singer Yellow also said that his song, "BKD Club" (不開燈俱樂部), was actually inspired by a trip to New York around a decade ago, which is why he is excited to bring the song "home" to the Big Apple.
Both 9m88 and ØZI, who is a Taiwanese-American himself, added that they look forward to introducing Yellow to their favorite restaurant.
Meanwhile, Emerson, who will be performing at Taiwanese Waves for the first time, said he will be bringing unpublished songs from his new album to the show.
Emerson added that it is very meaningful for him every time he gets to attend events related to Taiwan, adding that he hopes to showcase the diversity of Taiwan's artists to the rest of the world through music.
