Taipei, Feb. 28 (CNA) New Taipei Deputy Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) announced his resignation Wednesday, saying that he will take part in the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) primary to select the party's candidate for the next New Taipei mayoral election, set for November.

KMT Organizational Development Committee Director Lee Che-hua (李哲華) said New Taipei's KMT office is expected to make a preliminary election notice March 2, with registration to be held March 5-7.

A review of applicants and televised presentations for candidates to express their campaign agendas will be held, said Lee, adding that after the presentations, the candidates will be able to choose their own poll ratings from one of the seven poll rating companies approved by the party.

Poll rating results are set to be announced March 25, Lee added.

Apart from Hou, former Taipei County Magistrate Chou Hsi-wei (周錫瑋) and former New Taipei City councilor King Chieh-shou (金介壽) have also expressed their intentions to take part in the KMT primary. (Liu Lee-jung, Sunrise Huang and William Yen)
