Taipei, Jan. 9 (CNA) The Executive Yuan announced Friday that it has reluctantly accepted the resignation of Yeh Kuang-shih as transportation minister.

Premier Mao Chi-kuo tried to dissuade Yeh to stay on after Yeh tendered his resignation, but to no avail, it said.

Yeh insisted on resigning after his financial restructuring plan for the ailing Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. was rejected by legislators on Wednesday.

His position will be temporarily filled by Deputy Transportation Minister Chen Jian-yu.
