Sixteen groups from Taiwan and 36 from abroad will give 54 performances at the festival from Oct. 18 to 26, according to the Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau, the organizer of the annual event.

The international lineup includes John Escreet and The Sirius Quartet, the Abiah Quartet featuring Marcus Strickland, Jerry Gonzalez and The Fort Apache Band, the Toshi Fujii Quartet and the Grammy-winning bassist Eddie Gomez and his quintet.

Among the domestic groups scheduled to perform are the Taipei Jazz Orchestra, the CEO Jazz Big Band, TianFang Jazz and the Taichung United Saxophone Ensemble.

Taichung Mayor Jason Hu said Sunday that the festival has grown from attendance of 30,000-40,000 audience in its first year to over 1 million last year, and welcomed the public to this year's event.

The festival will open with performances by John Escreet and The Sirius Quartet, and close with those by the Eddie Gomez Quintet, according to organizers.

Now in its 12th year, the festival will take place at Taichung's Civic Square and Calligraphy Greenway.
