'Home at last' for Taiwanese in Hubei

A month and a half after being stuck in China’s Hubei province, the epicenter of the new coronavirus, nearly 400 Taiwanese finally returned home Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. They were among some 1,000 Taiwanese who went there to visit relatives and sightsee, or who live and work in Hubei province where Wuhan is located, but couldn't leave after the entire province was placed under lockdown to stop the spread of the virus. While many countries evacuated their citizens, Taiwan and China could not reach an agreement on evacuation procedures. As a result of the stalemate, after the first evacuation was carried out by China on Feb. 3, no other evacuation flights had been arranged until this week.
