Taipei, Feb. 7 (CNA) Taiwan's Sergio Tu (杜志濠) on Friday won bronze in the men's elite individual time trial at the 2026 Asian Road Cycling Championships in Saudi Arabia, qualifying for the 2026 Asian Games in the process.
Tu covered the 31-kilometer course in 37 minutes and 31 seconds, averaging 49.6 kilometers per hour.
Kazakhstan's Yevgeniy Fedorov took gold with a time of 36 minutes and 11 seconds, with Fedorov's compatriot Nicolas Vinokurov, son of 2006 Vuelta a España winner Alexander, finishing second with a time of 36 minutes and 56 seconds.
In an interview with organizers of the Feb. 5-11 championships, Tu said he rode carefully in sections that were either upwind or crosswind, before going all out in the later parts of the route that were downwind, where he averaged 60 and 65km/h.
The bronze was Tu's second medal at the Asian Cycling Championships after winning silver in the men's elite individual time trial in 2023.
Tu said that while he was happy to have bagged bronze, securing a medal at the Asian Games in Japan's Aichi Prefecture later this year was his ultimate goal.
