Taipei, Sept. 13 (CNA) Olympic medalist Chen Nien-chin (陳念琴) took home a bronze medal at the 2025 World Boxing Championships after losing in the women's 65-kilogram semifinal in Liverpool, England, on Friday.

Chen was edged out 2-3 by Uzbekistan's Navbakhor Khamidova after three hard-fought rounds at M&S Bank Arena, but she still secured Taiwan's first medal at the flagship event of World Boxing.

She had previously defeated Khamidova by unanimous decision in the women's 66-kg quarterfinals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where she also earned a bronze medal.

Meanwhile, Huang Hsiao-wen (黃筱雯), who claimed a bronze medal in the women's 51-kg category at the Tokyo Olympics, will face South Korea's Im Aeji in the 54-kg semifinals on Saturday. Im also won an Olympic bronze in Paris.

World Boxing is the new international federation for Olympic-style boxing, provisionally recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

As of late July, it had 118 national federations as members.

The 2025 World Boxing Championships is the inaugural edition of the federation's world championships, with more than 540 boxers from 66 national federations taking part.
