Taipei, Aug. 25 (CNA) Several airlines have announced flight cancellations for Wednesday as Typhoon Saudel approaches Taiwan, according to Taoyuan International Airport.

As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, a total of 16 flights had been canceled, the airport said.

The cancellations include China Airlines flights CI121/120 between Taoyuan and Naha, Okinawa; EVA Air flights BR112/113/185/186 between Taoyuan and Naha; and Peach Aviation flights MM921/922/924/927/929/930 between Taoyuan and Naha.

Also canceled are Starlux Airlines flights JX890/891 between Taoyuan and Miyakojima, Okinawa, and Thai Lion Air flights SL380/381 between Taoyuan and Naha.

The airport urged travelers to check the latest announcements from their airlines and allow sufficient time for check-in, security and immigration procedures.

The Central Weather Administration said earlier Tuesday that although the typhoon has weakened, it is still expected to affect Taiwan. Weather forecasts indicate that it will be closest to Taiwan from Thursday night to Friday, bringing heavy rain to northern and southern areas and mountainous parts of central Taiwan.
