Taipei, Dec. 2 (CNA) Taiwan's "Queen of Judo" Lien Chen-ling (連珍羚) won bronze in the women's under-57 kilogram event at the Tokyo Grand Slam 2023 after defeating Eteri Liparteliani of Georgia on Saturday.

Lien, who was victorious in the women's 57 kg event at the Hangzhou Asian Games in September, defeated Russia's Daria Kurbonmamadova, as well as Poland's Arleta Podolak in the first two rounds of the grand slam, and advanced to the round of eight.

The Taiwanese judoka, however, then lost to world No. 2 Canadian athlete Jessica Klimkait, but later beat Pleuni Cornelisse of the Netherlands in the repechage, securing her a place in the battle for bronze.

Lien had faced her upcoming opponent, Liparteliani, the world No. 8 judoka, earlier in March at the Tashkent Grand Slam 2023 in the semifinals, but had lost.

However, nine months later, it was Lien who was victorious after she defeated her Georgian opponent with a triangle choke and took home the bronze medal.

On Sunday, Taiwan's Lin Chen-hao (林真豪) is set to compete in the women's under-48 kg event, and Yang Yung-wei (楊勇緯) in the men's under-60 kg.
