Taiwan's Lu falls in playoff, takes second at Meiji Cup
Taipei, Aug. 11 (CNA) Taiwan's No. 1 female golfer Teresa Lu (盧曉晴) shot a final round 5-under par 67 to get into a playoff Sunday with South Korea's Seonwoo Bae at the Hokkaido Meiji Cup in Japan, but it was the Korean who prevailed with a birdie.
Lu entered the day trailing Bae by two shots but pulled even with birdies on the par-5 sixth and par-4 eighth, and took the lead with another birdie on the par-4 11th.
Bae responded, however, with a birdie on the par-5 12th, and both golfers parred the remaining holes to send the tournament into a playoff.
Bae, 25, took the 16 million Japanese yen (US$151,499) first prize while Lu won 7.9 million yen for finishing second. It was Bae's first title on Japan's LPGA tour.
South Korea's Ahn Sun-ju, meanwhile, finished one stroke back in third.
Lu is currently Taiwan's highest ranked female golfer at 91st in the world.
