Taipei, Nov. 23 (CNA) A woman was arrested after brandishing a paring knife during an argument with a man on the Taipei Metro on Saturday night, according to the Taipei City Police Department Rapid Transit Division.

No one was injured in the incident.

Police received a report at around 11 p.m. that a woman was carrying a knife on a train at Taipei Metro's Ximen Station, the police said in a statement issued Sunday.

On-duty metro officers were dispatched to the scene immediately.

The woman, in her 60s, claimed that a conflict arose when a man, in his 50s, stepped on her foot, the police said.

She was arrested on the spot and will be investigated for extortion, the police said.

The Taipei Rapid Transit Corp. will also fine the woman for carrying a knife, in accordance with the Mass Rapid Transit Act, the police added.

Bladed weapons are prohibited on the metro and violations can be reported to the police or to station staff by pressing the red emergency button inside the carriages or by the platform elevators, the police said.
