Taipei, Nov. 20 (CNA) Snow fell for the first time this winter on Yushan, Taiwan's highest mountain, around midday on Thursday, according to Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA).
The snow was recorded by the CWA's Yushan weather station, located 3,844.8 meters above sea level, which observed that snowflakes melted immediately after falling at 12:25 p.m. and did not remain on the ground.
The earliest first snow of the winter recorded on Yushan was on Oct. 1, 1986, while the latest snowfall was observed on March 26, 2023, the CWA said.
The normal timeframe for the first snow is between Nov. 8 and Dec. 31, with the average date falling on Dec. 14.
Aside from the Yushan weather station, Yushan National Park's Paiyun Lodge, located 3,402 meters above sea level, also saw snowfall at 12:34 p.m. on Thursday.
Snow stopped at 12:44 p.m. at the lodge, according to the Yushan National Park Headquarters.
