Taipei, March 25 (CNA) The sunny weather Taiwan has experienced in recent days is expected to continue Tuesday, but the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said brief showers could still occur in southeastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula.
The CWA forecast daytime highs of 28-31 degrees Celsius in the western half of the island and 27 degrees in other areas, before giving way to much lower temperatures at night.
Due to the continuing influence of a high-pressure system, daytime highs of above 33 degrees are also likely to occur over the next two days, independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said.
The summer-like weather will be felt around Taiwan through Thursday, before the arrival of a cold air mass on early Friday, Wu said.
Temperatures nationwide could then plunge, and the cold air mass might also bring intermittent showers to some parts of Taiwan, he said, without providing any other details.
The CWA, however, forecast temperatures of 14-17 degrees in the north on Saturday and Sunday.
Between March 31 and April 1, the cold air system could weaken and then strengthen again, increasing the chances of rain forecast in the north before easing the next day, Wu said.
