CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 16,034 new COVID-19 cases, 22 deaths
Taipei, Dec. 6 (CNA) Taiwan on Tuesday reported 16,034 new COVID-19 infections and 22 deaths, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The number of new cases represented a 7.2-percent drop from the same day a week earlier, CECC data showed.
On a week-by-week basis, the 101,163 cases recorded from Nov. 29 to Dec. 5 were down 2.31 percent from the number reported from Nov. 22 to Nov. 28, the data showed.
The deceased reported Tuesday ranged in age from their 50s to their 90s. All had underlying health conditions, and 15 of them were unvaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.
Also on Tuesday, the CECC reported nine new COVID-19 cases classified as moderate and 15 as severe.
Of the 8,326,850 local infections recorded this year, 21,647 have been classified as moderate and 16,030 as severe, accounting for 0.26 percent and 0.19 percent, respectively, of the total, according to CECC data as of Dec. 5.
Regionally, New Taipei reported the highest number of new cases, with 2,492, followed by Taichung with 2,157 and Kaohsiung with 2,008.
Taoyuan reported 1,588 new cases, Taipei 1,336, Tainan 1,314, Changhua 1,029, Pingtung 524, Hsinchu County 498, Yunlin 465, Miaoli 440 and Hsinchu City 438.
Chiayi County had 316 cases, Nantou 304, Yilan 274, Chiayi City 212, Hualien 199, Keelung 135, Taitung 124, Kinmen 99, Penghu 48 and the Matsu Islands two, the CECC said.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 8,395,477 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 37,987 classified as imported.
With the 22 deaths reported Tuesday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 14,522.
