Taipei, June 20 (CNA) Japan is the top destination that Taiwan tourists want to visit in the post-COVID-19 era amid a recovering travel market as countries gradually lift their border restrictions, the results of a survey conducted by a local travel agency showed on Monday.

South Korea, Europe, Asia/Africa, and Southeast Asia followed Japan on the list, Taipei-based Lion Travel Service Co. said in a statement about the online survey that drew around 3,000 participants.

Meanwhile, Osaka, Seoul, Germany/Switzerland, Okinawa, and Turkey ranked as the most popular destinations within the regions, with departure dates in the coming autumn and winter drawing the most inquiries, the survey indicated.

Notably, Europe outperformed Southeast Asia in attracting interest from Taiwan tourists, with Lion Travel Service attributing the change to the lifting of COVID-related border restrictions in European countries.

Europe-bound tour packages remained more economical than other destinations despite a 30-percent rise in prices, boosting the willingness of Taiwanese to travel to that part of the world for sight-seeing, the travel agency said.

Taiwan tourists also showed a greater interest in customized group tours longer than 10 days, reflecting a significant enthusiasm for travel after two years of widespread restrictions stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
