Taipei, Jan. 19 (CNA) Sunny to partly cloudy skies are forecast around the country on Sunday, with isolated showers in eastern parts of Taiwan and the Greater Taipei area, as temperatures rise slightly, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
The bureau said Sunday morning lows were between 12 and 15 degrees Celsius in areas north of Tainan; and 16 to 17 degrees in eastern, southern and southeastern Taiwan.
In northern Taiwan, Yilan and Hualien counties, daytime temperatures will rise to 18 to 20 degrees; while highs in central, southern Taiwan and eastern Taitung County could reach between 23 to 26 degrees.
Temperatures after night falls will drop again around the country, the CWB said, urging the public to keep warm due to the big difference between daytime and nighttime weather.
The cold air mass should weaken starting Monday, leading to a significant rebound in temperatures from Tuesday to Friday.
Daytime highs could reach 29 degrees Celsius in central and southern Taiwan on Thursday and Friday, the CWB said.
Meanwhile, the CWB warned on Sunday that some mountains above 3,000 meters in northern Taiwan could see frosty roads, urging motorists to be on alert for slippery conditions.
Strong winds can be expected in areas north of central Taiwan and on the Hengchun Peninsula in the south, while high waves can be seen in seas off the north coast and the Keelung area, it added.
