Heavy rain warning issued for 17 counties, cities: CWB
Taipei, May 27 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued a heavy rain warning for 17 counties and cities around Taiwan at noon Monday.
The alert is effective in Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Yilan, Hualien and Taitung.
Due to the influence of southwesterly winds combined with thermal convection, the likelihood of heavy rain is high in the afternoon in Hsinchu, Miaoli, areas south of Chiayi and mountainous areas throughout the country, the bureau said.
People in those areas should also remain vigilant for lightning and strong winds, the CWB said.
