1,000 households suffer power outages as typhoon hits outlying Lanyu

Up to 1,000 households on Lanyu (Orchid Island) off Taitung County in southeastern Taiwan were blacked out three times late Tuesday as Strong Typhoon Meranti hit the island with heavy rain and strong wind.
