Hon Hai showcases 'Foxconn Genesis' robotics platform at Computex 2025

Taipei, May 20 (CNA) Taiwan-based Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., better known globally as Foxconn, unveiled its new "Foxconn Genesis" robotics development platform at Computex Taipei 2025 on Tuesday.

In his keynote speech, Chairman Young Liu (劉揚偉) said the company aims to disrupt traditional robotics, which primarily focuses on developing eyes and arms, by introducing a new generation of robots powered by artificial intelligence.

These next-generation robots will use the Foxconn Genesis platform, developed in collaboration with U.S. AI chipmaker Nvidia Corp. and its Omniverse platform. The goal, Liu said, is to give robots a "brain" capable of transforming manufacturing and supply chains.

Nvidia's Omniverse enables developers to build AI-powered tools and services for industrial digitalization. With it, Liu said, Foxconn can simulate millions of training cycles, allowing robots to think and operate almost immediately upon deployment.

"Foxconn's three smart platforms -- Smart Manufacturing, Smart EV, and Smart City -- are all connected through Nvidia's advanced technologies," Liu said. "Together, we aim to accelerate the rise of AI-powered factories and drive enterprise IT transformation."

According to Nvidia, Omniverse also allows companies to test and optimize operations in a digital twin environment before implementing cost-saving changes in the real world.

Liu described Foxconn Genesis as a foundational technology for creating adaptable, intelligent robots capable of handling complex tasks and integrating innovations like Token storage technologies for large-scale AI deployment in production lines.

He noted that AI technologies are rapidly reshaping future factories, adding that Hon Hai is using AI agents -- autonomous systems capable of performing expert-level tasks such as flaw detection and equipment calibration -- to manage up to 80 percent of routine factory work.

This enables human workers to focus on more complex responsibilities, Liu said.

At a time when many are reluctant to take low-paying jobs, Liu said combining AI and robotics offers a viable solution for business transformation.

Hon Hai, widely known for assembling Apple's iPhones, has been aggressively diversifying its business under its "3 plus 3" strategy, focusing on electric vehicles, robotics, and digital healthcare. These efforts are driven by advancements in AI, semiconductors, and communication technologies.
