Taipei, Feb. 10 (CNA) Taiwan's Asustek Computer Inc. (華碩) said Tuesday that 2-in-1 detachable computers will feature more heavily in its product mix this year as it thinks there is growth potential in that segment.

Asustek's first 2-in-1 computer, the Transformer Book T100, has racked up global sales of more than 3 million units since its release in October 2013 at a price of NT$12,988 (US$412), the company's CEO Jerry Shen (沈振來) said.

By adding new 2-in-1 models to its product line, Asustek expects that category to account for 30 percent of its total notebook shipments this year, compared with 20 percent in 2014, he said

"Despite a stagnant PC industry, we believe the category of tablet-notebook hybrid devices will continue to grow," Shen said at press conference at which two new Asustek detachable laptops were announced.

The 10.1-inch Transformer Book T100 Chi features a 64-bit Intel Atom processor and comes preloaded with the Microsoft Office 365 suit. The device is available at NT$14,988.

The 12.5-inch T300 Chi sports an Intel Core M processor and a higher resolution screen of 2560 x 1440 pixels, and starts at a price of NT$22,900.

Tech research firm IDC has forecast that global shipments of 2-in-1 computers like Asustek's popular Transformer Book line will reach 13.44 million units this year, up 55 percent from the 8.68 million units recorded in 2014.
